“It’s not working…” my mind whispers to my heart as I scribble in my journal how defeated I feel. The praying. The hoping. The believing. It’s not working. And the promises? They aren’t real. But then my heart whispers back…
Do not grow weary in doing good for at the right time you will reap a harvest if you don’t give up. Galatians 6:9
This.
This is what I’m reminding myself of today. Nothing in my circumstances is changing—all of my well doing (praying, hoping, believing) seems pointless. But even so, as I look around and I am tempted to throw my hands up in the air and give up, the part of me, the part that understands the faithfulness of our Father, can’t help but think, “But what if…”
What if it does change?
What if prayer does matter?
What if things do get better…and soon?
What if healing does come?
What if breakthrough does happen? And it happens tomorrow? Or next month?
What if meditating on that same scripture is working? What if it is moving mountains?
And it’s that “what if” that keeps me moving forward in hope. In fact, it reminds me of that famous quote by Erin Hanson which says, “What if I fall? Oh, but darling, what if you fly?”
I will see the change.
I will see the breakthrough.
I will see the healing manifested.
I…will…fly.
Sweet friend, I don’t know what impossible circumstances you are facing; I don’t know what mountains you need moved, but don’t stop hoping in God for change. Don’t stop doing good. For at the right time, if you don’t give up, you too will fly.
