Scriptures To Stand Against Infertility

As you read scriptures and stories related to barren women in the Bible, it is clear that God has a heart for those who are unable to conceive. In fact, every woman mentioned in the bible who was unable to conceive did eventually have children through the mighty power and grace of God. Therefore, when struggling in the area to conceive,  it is important to remember that barrenness is not from God; HE is not the author of sickness, disease, or lack. And so, I encourage you to read and meditate on these scriptures below, as well as study the stories of the 7 couples also mentioned in this article, believing by grace through faith that God will restore you from barrenness to fruitfulness.

The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity–in the fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground–in the land he swore to your forefathers to give you. ~Deuteronomy 28:11

The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock–the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. ~Deuteronomy 28:4

I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers and I will keep my covenant with you. ~Leviticus 26:9

You will be blessed more than any other people; none of your men or women will be childless… ~Deuteronomy 7:14

He settles the barren woman in her home as a happy mother of children. Praise the Lord! ~Psalm 113:9

Is anything too hard for the LORD? ~Genesis 18:14

I prayed for this child, and the LORD has granted me what I asked of him. ~1 Samuel 1:27

It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep his promise. ~Hebrews 11:11 (NLT)

Worship the Lord your God, and his blessings will be on your food and water. I will take sickness from among you and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. ~Exodus 23:25-26

Your wife will be like a fruitful grapevine, flourishing within your home. Your children will be like vigorous young olive trees as they sit around your table. ~Psalm 128:3

May the God of your father help you; may the Almighty bless you with the blessings of the heavens above, and blessings of the watery depths below, and blessings of the breasts and womb. ~Genesis 49:25

For God does not show favoritism. ~Romans 2:11

Once Infertile Women in the Bible

Elisabeth, mother of John The Baptist | Luke 1

Manoah’s wife, Samson’s mother | Judges 13

Rachel, Jacob’s wife | Genesis 30

Rebekah, Isaac’s wife and eventual mother of the twins, Jacob & Esau | Genesis 25:21-24

Sarah, Abraham’s wife and mother of Isaac |Genesis 18:1-1521:1-7

The Shunammite Woman | 2 Kings 4:8-37

Hannah, mother of Samuel | 1 Samuel 1

There were seven women mentioned in the Bible who had trouble conceiving, and you know what I find interesting when I read their stories? It never mentions why. It could have easily been due to PCOS, endometriosis, blocked fallopian tubes, no uterus, low ovarian reserve, poor egg quality, uterine lining issues, hormonal imbalance, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, fibroids, etc. Or it could have had nothing to do with her but rather an issue with her husband.

So, what’s my point to all of this?

It is simply to point out that it didn’t matter why and it wasn’t important to God to mention why. Instead, the point God wanted to highlight and still wants to highlight to you today is that He is the God of the impossible. And ultimately, it doesn’t matter what is causing your inability to conceive. It doesn’t even matter if it is “unexplained” because He knows how to break through barriers. He knows how to destroy obstacles. He is the God who heals. The God who restores. And the God who fulfills the desires of those hearts who cry out and delight in Him.

So, friend, please listen to my heart. Because I want you to know that it doesn’t matter what you are facing, what your diagnosis is or isn’t, God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And what He did for them, He can do for you. I don’t know how, but I trust and put my faith in the Truth that nothing will ever stand in His way.

  1. I’m really struggling with the fact that for almost 2 years my husband and I have not conceived. I put God at the back door and lately the only way I can see a light in this dark tunnel is through Him. While trying to grasp the idea of trusting in God and getting to know His word through Scripture, this post shows me to the parts of the Bible at my time off need.
    Thank you

  2. I am happy to be reminded of Psalms 113:9. Jahovah’s word will not return to Him without accomplishing that which it was sent forth to do. He is a man of His word. He settles the barren? Lord, You have a score to settle with me!
