Do You Approach the Throne of Grace?

Rest in Grace.

Hebrews 4 has a lot of good and hard truths about entering God’s rest, the Word of God, and the throne of grace.

What truth can we pull from Hebrews 4?

God has promised us the ability to enter His rest in obedience (Hebrews 4:1-7)

• the Word of God is important for daily Christian life/well-being/sanctification (Hebrews 4:12)

• We cannot hide anything from God (Hebrews 4:13)

• Jesus is our high priest who sympathizes with our weakness (Hebrews 4:14)

• God’s throne of grace is accessible, approachable, and we are invited to it (Heb. 4:16)

This paints the story of Genesis to Revelation –

God created and rested. God gives commandments for His people to follow Him. People stumble in sin, all falling short of His glory, God seeing it all. Jesus enters the scene on Earth, fully God, fully man, becoming our high priest through death and resurrection. Because of the gift of mercy and grace through the shed blood of Jesus, we have an invitation to eternity, to the throne of grace, if we receive and accept it.

Hebrews 4 is a consistent reminder that we have a Lord who cares for us, who understands us, who sees us. We have a Lord who cries with us and rejoices with us. We have a Lord who is willing, able, and available to us all at times.

When the enemy uses infertility against us and against God (and he WILL attempt this!), is our first response to eat up the lies and believe the enemy, or is it to run to the throne of grace, boldly entering His rest through Jesus Christ, and trading the lie in for God’s truth?

When we spend time in the Bible, which is living and effective and sharper than any double-edged sword, we receive God’s truth. We give the Holy Spirit space to speak and reveal God’s beautiful truth to our hearts that can get muddled with the lies of the world.

When we confess our sins, our struggles, our stinky thoughts and feelings to Jesus (he knows them anyway, let’s get real and honest with him!), it’s an opportunity to say, “Here is all my ick, give me more of you.”

I never want to be so full of the world and of myself that there is no room for the Holy Spirit to dwell.

I never want to be so weighed down by the bondage of sin and the lies of the enemy that I don’t approach the throne of grace with boldness, receiving mercy and finding grace to help me in my time of need.

We have a God who desires to be with us. We have a Jesus who longs for our repentance so we can receive all that is ours for the taking. We have a Holy Spirit who is thrilled to counsel and help us in our time of need.

No matter what you’ve done, said, or thought, as a daughter of God, you have access to the throne of grace.

For Discussion:

• What stops you from being raw, real, and honest at the throne of grace?

• What lie does the enemy scream at you? Do you have the truth memorized to respond to the lies?
