When You Lack Endurance and Patience

When You Lack Endurance and Patience

“We are asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding so that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power, according to this glorious might, so that you may have endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the saints’ inheritance in the light.” Colossians 1:9-13

Are you in need of endurance and patience while you wait on the Lord?

Does it ever just seem impossible?

Colossians 1:9-13 talks about prayer for spiritual growth, and we see it written that endurance, patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father are attainable things.

But how do we get there?

  1. By being filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding (consistently reading and studying scripture and praying).
  2. Walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to Him (repenting of our sins, receiving His gift of grace through forgiveness, being obedient to His word, spending time in the Bible growing in these ways).
  3. Bearing fruit in every good work and growing in the knowledge of God (Galatians 5 talks about walking in step with the Spirit so that you may bear the fruit of the Spirit).

All of this helps us be strengthened in God’s power (not our own!) so taht we have great endurance and patience, joyfully giving thanks to the Father.

While God’s love is never transactional (it is wildly unconditional, thank you, Jesus!), we do see some transactional language. Growing in endurance, patience, and joy isn’t a byproduct of complaining, negativity, and passively sitting around waiting for God do something. Instead, the Lord is faithful, giving us good work and a good book to study filled with His love and knowledge so that we can grow in these areas. But it won’t happen if we don’t enter in, study, and pray. Therefore, ask the Holy Spirit to help you study and receive wisdom every time you open the Bible. he will not let you down.

It’s no surprise that this infertility’s journey is a struggle, wearying to our minds and souls. What if, during the waiting, we grow deeper in our roots with Jesus, produce good fruit in our moment of barrenness, and let the Lord renew our minds?

What if we let the Lord surprise us with the endurance and patience, and joy He builds within us when we do what His word says and walk through infertility glorifying God?

My prayer for you today is that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding. May you walk worthy of the Lord, pleasing to Him and bearing fruit, growing in the knowledge of God. may you be strengthened according to HIS glorious might, growing in endurance, patience, and joy. May you thank Him, praise Him, and trust His love and mercy for you.

My name is Brittney, and I am a contributor for Waiting for Baby Bird Ministries. I am so glad to meet you! My goal in life was to be a mother, popping out my two babies and perfectly wrapping up that part of the journey by the time I was 25. Now 36 and still no baby in my arm despite 9.5 years of TTC, the Lord has equipped my heart and made me passionate about encouraging my sisters in the wait to trust in the Lord and His perfect timing. I’ve been married for 11 years to my patient saint of a husband, Jason. Jason has been a steady constant in my life, and I am so grateful for his steadfastness and love for the Lord. My dream is to one day homeschool my kiddos on a farm, spending our days with our chickens and in the garden, tending to all the things. While I wait, I am building my little homestead up and giving those one-day babies groundwork to dig into, literally! I am the hands behind the t-shirts that we fundraiser for here with WFBB, and I run a small business for my not-so-full-time job. I love to make and create, whether that’s for dollars or my own home. I am passionate about studying God’s word and reading in general. I love cooking and baking from scratch, spending time with people who make me laugh, and spending time outdoors. I can’t wait to get to know you more as we grow together along this journey. If you’re looking for someone who will disciple and challenge you to grow in the Lord and trust Him, I’m your gal!
