15 Songs to Help You Cope with a Pregnancy Loss

When I suffered my early miscarriage, I found music to be my safe haven. It touched me in a unique way that words alone could never reach. It mysteriously helped clear my soul—free my mind. Heal my wounded heart. And help me move forward. So sweet sister, my prayer for you today is that as you listen to each song suggested by women who know the pain of such loss, you will also find the strength you need, the peace you crave, and the healing you beg for.

Beam Me Up by Pink

Could you beam me up,
Give me a minute, I don’t know what I’d say in it
I’d probably just stare, happy just to be there, holding your face
Beam me up,
Let me be lighter, I’m tired of being a fighter,
I think a minute’s enough,
Just beam me up.

I Will Carry You by Selah

There were photographs I wanted to take
Things I wanted to show you
Sing sweet lullabies, wipe your teary eyes
Who could love you like this? People say that I am brave but I’m not
Truth is I’m barely hanging on…

Slipped Away by Avril Lavigne

I miss you, miss you so bad
I don’t forget you, oh it’s so sad

I hope you can hear me
I remember it clearly

The day you slipped away
Was the day I found it won’t be the same

Your Hands by JJ Heller

I have unanswered prayers
I have trouble I wish wasn’t there
And I have asked a thousand ways
That you would take my pain away…

Gone Too Soon by Daughtry

Who would you be?
What would you look like,
When you looked at me for the very first time?
Today could have been the next day of the rest of your life.

Not a day goes by,
That I don’t think of you,
I’m always asking why this crazy world had to lose,
Such a ray of light we never knew,
Gone too soon, yeah.

Beauty from Pain by Superchick

The lights go out all around me
One last candle to keep out the night
And then the darkness surrounds me
I know I’m alive but I feel like I’ve died
And all that’s left is to accept that it’s over
My dreams ran like sand through the fists that I made
I try to keep warm but I just grow colder
I feel like I’m slipping away…

Glory Baby by Watermark

Glory baby, you slipped away
As fast as we could say baby, baby
You were growing, what happened dear
You disappeared on us baby, baby

Heaven will hold you before we do
Heaven will keep you safe
Until we’re home with you

Not for a Moment by Meredith Andrews

You were reaching through the storm
Walking on the water
Even when I could not see
In the middle of it all
When I thought You were a thousand miles away
Not for a moment did You forsake me

See You Again by Carrie Underwood

I will see you again, oh
This is not where it ends
I will carry you with me, oh
‘Till I see you again…

Nothing is Wasted by Jason Gray

The hurt that broke your heart
And left you trembling in the dark
Feeling lost and alone
Will tell you hope’s a lie
But what if every tear you cry
Will seed the ground where joy will grow…

Tell Your Heart to Beat Again by Danny Gokey

You’re shattered
Like you’ve never been before
The life you knew
In a thousand pieces on the floor
And words fall short in times like these
When this world drives you to your knees
You think you’re never gonna get back
To the you that used to be

I Want You Here by Plumb

I wanna scream
Is this a dream?
How could this happen,
Happen to me?
This isn’t fair
This nightmare
This kind of torture
I just can’t bear
I want you here
I want you here
Ooh… ooh…

You’re Going to Be Okay by Brian Johnson and Jenn Johnson

I know it’s all you’ve got to just, be strong
And it’s a fight just to keep it together, together
I know you think, that you are too far gone
But hope is never lost
Hope is never lost

Hold on, don’t let go
Hold on, don’t let go

Just take, one step, closer
Put one foot in front of the other
You’ll, get through this
Just follow the light in the darkness
You’re gonna be ok…

The Sun Is Rising by Britt Nicole

When life has cut too deep and left you hurting
The future you had hoped for is now burning
And the dreams you held so tight lost their meaning
And you don’t know if you’ll ever find the healing

Thy Will by Hillary Scott

I’m so confused
I know I heard You loud and clear
So, I followed through
Somehow I ended up here
I don’t wanna think
I may never understand
That my broken heart is a part of Your plan
When I try to pray
All I’ve got is hurt and these four words…

  1. Hi Elisha,
Thank you so much for sending out these songs, and the ones you sent out last week or so too! I had an early miscarriage after my first FET a few months ago too. I wish I’d had these songs then, because they’re spot on! We’re doing our next FET tomorrow actually and to be able to listen to these songs tonight is perfect. So thank you for sharing and being so uplifting during this time! Although I can’t wait to be pregnant again and finally hold my baby in my arms, I know I’ll always miss and thank about the babies I’ve lost.
PS..I was so happy to hear the news about your family being able to finally adopt your daughter! Such an amazing story of God’s work!
    Thank you,
    Aurelia

  2. Thank you for this post… many songs have gotten me through…this one in particular helped me grieve …. Jason Gray: Not right now….
The lyrics: “Don’t tell me when I’m grieving
That this happened for a reason
Maybe one day we’ll talk about the dreams that had to die
For new ones to come alive
    But not right now”

  3. Hi. I’m a songwriter is it okay to share a song that might help those heal who have had to endure such an unimaginable loss? As a mother myself I cannot even imagine the endless painful emotions. It’s called “A Parent’s lullaby,” I wrote it for one of my mentors Jon Schmidt of The PIano Guys? Here’s the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUJcEDksSgc

    Thanks in advance
    Cam

  4. I just recorded a music video about my wife’s miscarriage. She sang the chorus for it. Feel free to watch it and share it.

  5. I think the song that helped me the most was Til It Happens To You by Lady Gaga and Happy by P!nk

  6. I wrote a song about a heartbreaking miscarriage. It’s on YouTube and Spotify… it’s called “Journey to the Moon” by Silk and Steel.
