15 Songs That Offer Hope When the Pregnancy Test Is Negative

I see you, sweet sister. I see your pain. Your hurt. Your disbelief. And your confusion. The tears can’t stop flowing, and you can’t help but wonder if and when you will ever see those two pink lines. And it stings. You don’t know how much longer you can keep going with the way things are, yet at the same time, you know you can’t give up, at least not yet. Please know that I understand. And while I can sit here and type words of comfort like I typically do in my articles, I won’t. Because I have learned that sometimes the only thing that can calm your worried heart and bring healing to your wounded soul is not words alone, but music. Because where words can fail, music always speaks.

Because the old saying is true in that music has the unique ability to touch us emotionally, where words cannot.

Therefore below, you will find 15 songs suggested by women who have walked or are walking the same journey as you and who have tripped on the same rocks, fell into the same potholes, and ran into the same ditches. They know not only what it feels like to see one “no,” but to see it repeatedly.

Sweet sister, you are not alone in your heartache. And my prayer is that because music can reach far into the depths of our soul that no other person can touch, these songs below will provide you with the hope, the strength, and the courage to keep pressing on and keep fighting hard for your God-given dreams and desires.

It is Well by Bethel

* I pray that as you hear this song and you listen to the lyrics, your faith will trump your logic as you continue to believe that one day your miracle will no longer be simply growing in your heart but also your arms. *

Far be it from me to not believe
Even when my eyes can’t see

And this mountain that’s in front of me
Will be thrown into the midst of the sea…

So let go my soul and trust in Him
The waves and wind still know His name…

Every Storm Runs Out of Rain by Gary Allen

I saw you standing in the middle of the thunder and lightning
I know you’re feeling like you just can’t win, but you’re trying
It’s hard to keep on keepin’ on when you’re being pushed around
Don’t even know which way is up, you just keep spinning down, ’round, down

Every storm runs, runs out of rain
Just like every dark night turns into day
Every heartache will fade away
Just like every storm runs, runs out of rain…

Worn by Tenth Avenue North

I‘m tired
I’m worn
My heart is heavy
From the work it takes to keep on breathing

I’ve made mistakes
I’ve let my hope fail
My soul feels crushed
By the weight of this world…

It’s Not Over Yet by For King and Country

* This song gives me the feel-good goosebumps every.single.time. *

They are inside your head
You got a voice that says
You won’t get past this one
You won’t win your freedom

It’s like a constant war
And you want to settle that score
But you’re bruised and beaten
And you feel defeated…

Thy Will by Hillary Scott

* The video I posted below tells of the day she decided to write this song. It is very encouraging and a must-see! *

I’m so confused
I know I heard you loud and clear
So, I followed through
Somehow I ended up here
I don’t wanna think
I may never understand
That my broken heart is a part of your plan
When I try to pray
All I’ve got is hurt and these four words…

Just Be Held by Casting Crowns

So when you’re on your knees and answers seem so far away
You’re not alone, stop holding on and just be held
Your world’s not falling apart, it’s falling into place
I’m on the throne, stop holding on and just be held
Just be held, just be held...

Fight Song by Rachel Platten

This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me…

I Will by Citizen Way

When the shadow won’t leave
When the battle won’t stop
And every breath that you breathe
Takes all that you’ve got
When you wonder if you’re always
Gonna feel this way…

I Need You Now by Plumb

Well, everybody’s got a story to tell
And everybody’s got a wound to be healed
I want to believe there’s beauty here
‘Cause oh, I get so tired of holding on
I can’t let go, I can’t move on
I want to believe there’s meaning here

How many times have you heard me cry out
“God please take this”?
How many times have you given me strength to
Just keep breathing?
Oh I need you
God, I need you now…

Move (Keep Walkin) by TobyMac

Too many passin’ dreams
Roll by like limousines
It’s hard to keep believin’
When they pass you by and by

I know your heart been broke again
I know your prayers ain’t been answered yet
I know you’re feeling like you got nothing left
Well, lift your head, it ain’t over yet, ain’t over yet so…

Help Me Find It by Sidewalk Prophets

I don’t know where to go from here
It all used to seem so clear
I’m finding I can’t do this on my own…

If there’s a road I should walk
Help me find it
If I need to be still
Give me peace for the moment…

Soar by Meredith Andrews

I’m gonna run and not grow weary
I’m gonna walk and not grow faint
Rise up on wings like eagles to soar…

The Sun Is Rising by Britt Nicole

When life has cut too deep and left you hurting,
The future you had hoped for is now burning,
And the dreams you held so tight have lost their meaning,
And you don’t know if you’ll ever find the healing

The Climb by Miley Cyrus

I can almost see it
That dream I am dreaming
But there’s a voice inside my head saying
“You’ll never reach it”

Every step I’m taking
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking

But I gotta keep trying
Gotta keep my head held high…

Steady My Heart by Kari Jobe

* After my miscarriage in 2012, this song stayed on repeat as it was the only one that could “steady my heart” from the raging sea of intense emotions within me. My prayer is that as you also have that same intense emotion after seeing another negative, this song will have the ability to steady your breaking heart. *

Wish it could be easy
Why is life so messy?
Why is pain a part of us?
There are days I feel like
Nothing ever goes right
Sometimes it just hurts so much

Bonus Song:

Gonna Be Okay by The Band Perry

* I stumbled upon this song while searching for new songs and instantly fell in love. In fact, if I could sing you a song right now to encourage your defeated heart, it would be this one. But since I can’t, I’ll let “The Band Perry” do it for me.  *

Hey, yesterday is the day you died, could it be you just stopped feeling alive?
Trouble’s on your shoulders for so long, you’ll be stronger when the moment’s gone
You’re looking for a better day, the darkest hour finds the brightest grace
So today, I know you’ll come to realize
Come to realize that…

  1. I’d like to add “Hold onto Hope” by Amy Stroup. This song got me through many negative tests and heartbreak.

  2. “Thy Will”, “Just Be Held” and “Still” (from your last post!) have been my anthems on repeat since my husband and I started on this infertility journey. I literally must’ve listened to them thousands of times by now and sung them to myself when I feel like I can’t do anything else. It’s crazy how music can be so healing. I think some of these songs will be added to my list. Thank you for sharing your story and hope – it really, really helps to not feel so alone.

  3. Thank you for sharing these songs, I recognize many of them and they have given me peace and hope during the times I needed it the most. When I was struggling with infertility, the song by Plumb, I Need You Know, always tore me to pieces. It always made me realize that I needed to just keep looking toward God to guide me and not get caught up in my depressing thoughts. I just posted a blog that I hope you get a chance to read and find some encouragement through. My husband and I struggled to have a baby for six years. I met some ladies through a group called Resolve (in Texas) and it really helped to talk with other women going through the same thing because no one I knew had any trouble getting pregnant. Wishing you your hearts desire. God Bless.
