Broken Bracelet. Broken Dreams?

broken braceletFor two years my husband has worn this bracelet (he calls it an “arm band”…much more manly).  And He has sported it every single day as a reminder to keep hoping, keep believing, keep waiting, and to keep praying no matter what we face on this journey.  Never once has he taken it off.  But yesterday, it broke.  And all day long I have walked by the kitchen counter where he placed it, and this bracelet has kept screaming at me.  It keeps yelling that the reason why it broke, is because I have broken dreams.  Which is silly right?  Silly that I would think a broken bracelet would signify broken dreams?  But as I was getting ready to move it somewhere else tonight (you know, out of sight…out of mind), I heard a little whisper.  And the whisper said that perhaps it didn’t break because my dreams are broken, but it broke because perhaps they will soon be fulfilled.  And so all of the hoping, the believing, the waiting, and the praying for a “baby bird” is…well…almost over.  Which I realize that little whisper might be silly too.  But you know what friends?  I would much rather live in hope, then die in despair.

So here is to a broken bracelet!  Here is to having hope that through its brokenness, redemption is on its way.  And here is to seeing if the bracelet I have been wearing, also decides to snap in half…

  1. YES! Choosing hope and life over despair and death…not the easiest thing to do, by far, but definitely the best choice to make. I am so thankful for the way you allow the dear Lord to turn your sights to the positive side of every situation. ๐Ÿ™‚ And, yes, maybe the reason it broke is that it is a sign that you are very near the point of not needing to wear it anymore, because what you have hoped for for so long will be fulfilled!! Believing with you, in Jesus’ name and praying for you very often. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I agree- fulfilled dreams! My engagement ring broke only weeks before my wedding day and I was crushed. I had all sorts of those same thoughts run through my head. But we are going on 10 years now and couldn’t be happier! I don’t think God works in the way of crushing our dreams like that. He never lets us down like that. His ways are much more complex than a broken bracelet or ring can symbolize. I’m enjoying reading your blog!

    • Thanks girl!! I knew God wasn’t the one “crushing” my dreams with the bracelet…my thoughts were mainly that those dreams were not from God. Still silly right? Supa glad I moved past those nasty thoughts of despair and defeat. And I love how God refused to let me stay in them by providing me with a whisper of hope.

  4. Hi Elisha I’m waiting in anticipation with you as your dream unfolds… I have had those thoughts as well about my dream maybe not being from God- jan12th 2014 I had a vision – lots of women telling me ‘you will be a mother to a son….his name will be Ben’ & I saw him at about 6months old in a high chair. (By the way it found out later that Ben means Son.) Ever since I have been waiting for my son. I thought the dream was being fulfilled when I got pregnant following ivf – my hopes were dashed when we miscarried at 9 weeks. Now I sit and wonder what God meant and how it will be fulfilled…on occasion I doubt and think was it really God…it’s such a mystery still, but I know his plans WILL unfold. The following verses came to me shortly after the dream:-

The vision is for an appointed time wait for it.habbakok 2

My words will come true at their proper time. Luke1

I’ll be following your story ๐Ÿ™‚
