A New Year and New Hope

Sweet friend, can we talk? In just a few hours, the clock will strike midnight, and the calendar page will flip. This year will be gone, and for many, the ending looks nothing like what they had hoped or imagined. It’s often during this time of the year that we glance back to the moments which had penetrated our minds from the year before, and despite all of the laughter and joy that happened, we somehow only see the loss, the pain, and the hurt. We see the plans that failed. The promotions we didn’t get. The weight we gained. The friendships we lost. The loved ones who were taken from us too soon. The dreams we have that are nowhere near being accomplished. And the hope for a better tomorrow fading.

Therefore as we sit back and reflect on the past, we wonder, sometimes with fear and anxiety, what the next year holds. We fret that it will always be the same, and we hold on to the lie that nothing will ever change. Maybe that’s you today, and you are holding on to hope by a thread. You are looking ahead and wondering if things will be better or if they will actually get worse. Worse with more heartache. More failure. More disappoints. Oh, how I wish I could give you all of the answers to your most burning questions to ease your uncertainty and settle your fears, but I can’t.

And so, I won’t.

However, what I can give you today is a little hope.

Hope that the next year will be different. Because while this year will be over in just a few short hours and in the history books, a new year with a new chapter is yet to be written. It’s fresh. The slate has been wiped clean. It is just a new beginning that is packed full of possibilities. Full of new chances. Full of dreams and promises. Full of hope and life and change. And most of all, full of restoration.

Yes, my friend, restoration.

So go ahead and let go of the past. Allow yourself to get excited. Begin to dream again and believe that this new year will be above and beyond what you could ever hope for. Because friend, that is what God is doing for you now. He is making plans and dreaming dreams for your life that will take your breath away and leave you speechless. And it’s all because He loves you, and believe it or not, He is for you, not against you. In fact, He is Your biggest cheerleader, and He is rooting for you.

So, friend, I don’t know what your year has looked like or where you are standing in this moment, but what I do know is that there is hope for change. Hope for a better tomorrow. God is right here in this moment, and He is making plans to restore to you everything that was lost. He is dreaming dreams for you that go far beyond your expectations, and He is rooting for you to succeed and be prosperous in every way. I know you have been left feeling forgotten, but He hasn’t taken His eyes off you in the least bit, nor has He given up even in the slightest when it comes to the desires He has placed within your heart. So take a deep breath and relax in His Presence during these last few moments of this year.

Let go of the past and get excited about your future. Allow yourself to have hope. Hope that it won’t be as hard. Hope that it won’t be as painful or as overwhelming. Hope that things can change instantly and that it won’t always be like it is right now. Have hope that with God, your dreams will be accomplished and your desires fulfilled. My friend, let hope overtake you when the clock strikes midnight. Let it carry you as the calendar page begins to flip. Let it take you into a New Year that is packed full of life, change, and new possibilities.

Happy New Year from me to you!
