“I AM”

When God appeared to Moses and instructed him to go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of bondage from Egypt, Moses asked God what he and the Israelites should call Him and God’s response was “I AM”.

“God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM”.  This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you'”   -Exodus 3:14

Whenever I read Biblical stories I always try to place myself in their shoes and I can’t imagine what Moses was thinking as he stood in the presence of the Almighty God.  I can’t imagine his thoughts as he was being instructed to go before Pharaoh and ask that he let his people go.  EEK!  But better yet, Moses has to go and tell the Israelites that the God who has sent him is called “I AM”.  I can’t help but wonder after hearing God tell him His name, if Moses waited around for God to finish His sentence….“I AM…what?”  But God continues on to tell Moses that “I AM” was the name by which He would be remembered for all generations.

As I sit here, I can’t even comprehend these two words…“I AM”.  They are two simple words that are so powerful, so full of hope, and so full of everything God is TO me and has FOR me.  I am so thankful today that He is not “I WAS”, or “I WILL BE”, or “I MIGHT BE”, but “I AM”–He is present, right now, and ready to work in my life and your life.

He is ready, willing, and able to be anything that we want or need in our lives.   Whatever it is that you need, He is the Great “I AM”.

As I sit here and stare at these two words, I realize the best way to see our wants and needs met, is to seek after God.

To seek means to pursue, crave, go after…it’s like being so hungry that you won’t stop at anything until you are fed.

I believe if we all pursued, craved for and went after God with such passion, then we would have all that we need and whatever it is that we are hungry for, whatever it is that we are lacking, He will provide because we have Him, and He has everything.

No one wants to admit it, but we all at one time or another seek after God’s “presents” but not His “presence.”  But today I am reminded that if we seek after His “presence” then we will automatically have His “presents”.  This is because He doesn’t give us what we need—He IS what we need.  How awesome is that?!

“The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek (pursue, crave, go after) the LORD lack no good thing.” –Psalm 34:10

He does not just give us joy–He IS joy!

He does not just give us healing–He IS healing

He does not just give us peace–He IS peace

He does not just give us comfort–He IS comfort

He does not just give us hope–He IS hope

I am so thankful that God is “I AM” and “not will be”, “not might be”, or “was”.  But RIGHT NOW, He IS my healing, my joy, my hope, my peace, and my EVERYTHING as I go through this season of waiting for my baby bird.

Whatever you need, I urge you to seek (pursue, crave, go after with extreme passion) the presence of the Great “I AM”, because in Him and His presence, He has EVERYTHING you need right now, this very moment, and at this very hour.

I AM
